Shan Li Xi Gui Fei Mei Ren Eco-Cha Taiwanese Oolong [Episode 43]

Episode 42 begins a two-part series on some the Taiwanese Oolongs from Eco-Cha. This episodes focuses on a relatively rare offering, a high-mountain (Shan Li Xi) Gui Fei Mei Ren (Concubine Oolong). This tea is a very interesting intersection between high-mountain tea and Oriental Beauty. Read more about Shan Li Xi Gui Fei Mei Ren and Eco-Cha.

  1. Nice to learn about this tea, guys. Thanks!

You spoke about brewing temperatures in the video — what temp do you use for Bai Hao and gaoshan oolongs?

I’m looking forward to your “lab” videos.

    • Hi Peter, I use boiling for gaoshan. Good gaoshan should hold up well and it brings out stronger characteristics (body, flavor, mouthfeel). Oriental Beauty, I’ll use somewhere between boiling and green tea temperatures, lower if I want it to be very sweet.

Thanks for the feedback on the labs. We’ve filmed a bunch more normal episodes, but we’ll try to get some in there soon!

      Cheers,
      -James
