2017 has been a transitory year for me with a few significant life changes. Part of this involved the very painful process of packing up all my tea-related things and moving from my apartment of five years. This is the first time since my tea-obsession began that I’ve moved. It also forced me to reckon with how much I had accumulated (maybe I can just get rid of more sweaters to fit a few extra cakes?). This year has also been quite different from 2014-2016, with both my consumption and purchasing shifting significantly downwards, a shift I consider to be both positive and healthy.. (more…)
This episode Denny and James review a tea from premium Taiwanese pu’erh vendor Xizihao. The tea is the 2007 Zhenpin and has been generously sent to us by Darius (shah). Unlike the Puzhen reviewed a couple episodes back this has been aged in Taiwan.
This episode, Denny and James drink some aged, roasted Dahongpao from Cha Ceremony, a Yancha specialist.
Yunnan Sourcing has quietly added quite a selection of semi-aged pu’erh stored in more humid conditions, not a bad feat for a vendor mainly known for Kunming dry-stored tea and the YS label. Getting the sample itch, I convinced my local tea friend Garrett (also featured in the MX report) to split a few samples and write up some notes. We picked a handful of teas that looked interesting and added a couple teas I already own that fit into the category. (more…)
This episode, James brings on TeaDB regular, Meet onto the show for some of Meet’s favorite type of tea, Wuyi Oolong. The tea is Cha Ceremony’s Zhengyan Rougui.
This episode, Denny and James drink an old Baozhong (from Everlasting Teas) that’s been re-roasted once in 1995.
In this episode, Garrett and James have an open-ended discussion on Taobao, a Chinese online shopping platform. We start by discussing how we originally started using Taobao, some of its uses to learn and explore tea, and how we found specific vendors on Taobao. About halfway through the episode we discuss agents (intermediaries that allow you to buy tea from Taobao) that we’ve used in the past with and the logistics involved. The episode concludes with a discussion of if we will order from Taobao in the future and the specific type of teas (i.e. factory tea) that we specifically look for. The episode concludes with some pros and cons that we both have of the buying platform.
This is NOT a how-to guide for taobao.
This episode, Denny and James drink a 2017 wild production from Wuliang, made by Essence of Tea.
In this episode, Denny and I bring a boutique tea generously provided by Darius (shah). The tea is the 2007 XZH Puzhen that has been relatively dry-stored.
