2017 W2T Lumber Slut, Ripe Pu’erh [Inbetweenisode 156]

This episode I review the irreverently named Lumber Slut. It’s a ripe pu’erh produced under the White2Tea label and right in the wheelhouse for those that like heavy wood flavors.

Sorry for the sound quality as my phone didn’t record the audio so I was forced to use the audio from my camera.

6.4 Rating.

  1. I ordered samples of Lumber Slut and Sunday Special shortly after they came out and I find myself preferring Sunday Special. So easy to drink even with the mild dui wei. Lumber Slut was just so different compared to what I normally drink I haven’t found myself wanting to make it, not that it was unpleasant at all though.

    • As both teas are pressings from 2017 shu material I think du wei is inevitable. I think the Sunday Special is somewhat mediated by the blending in of some older material. I still have a cake from Scott of 2015 that has a strong du wei taste which in these winter months can be both a desired and reassuring taste.

    • Thanks for the comment. For me it was the reverse preference. I can definitely tell that Sunday Special had some quality material, but I’d rather drink it down the line. Lumber Slut hit the spot for me right out the gate.

  2. I like the idea of a basic rating system. No harm in giving your honest opinion and frankly with the insane number of teas out there, some ratings are helpful from someone who is knowledgable, particularly with pu.

  3. James,

I like the idea of ratings as a directional guide as long as I can relate to it. I was not quite clear as to wether your rating was against ripe teas only or to Puer teas in general. I assumed ripe teas only. One feature that might make it more meaningful would be to have a rating “reference” tea, such as Dayi’s 7572, V 93, etc. so we can get an idea of its quality relative to a common tea that most would know. Just a thought. Keep the reviews and vids coming, my wife and enjoy them immensely.

    Regards,
