  1. Hey James, I’m really wanting to learn more about Pu erh and I was wondering if u considered White2tea’s 4 tea “beginner sampler” a good idea? Thanks! Keep up the awesome work for us budding tea lovers (no pun intended… Maybe…)

    • I have it, it is really good – all of these cakes. Each one is unique, lets you feel the difference. Beside their ‘educational’ aspect, they are also pleasant everyday teas.
I believe you should also get a sample of something from the regular W2T offer, something from the middle of its price range. Just to see what pu’er can do.

    • Hi Gabriel,

Not having tried the actual teas, I’d say that it likely is a very reasonable deal and great way to start, especially for relatively young pu’erh. I’d consider adding samples of ripe and a more mature tea for a more complete introduction!

      Cheers,
      -James

  2. Great episode James. Glad to hear that someone else has experienced the ‘pooling’ effect in the throat that I got from the Tuhao!

Keep up the great content! Looking forward to Last Thoughts.

    • Same here. Out of all the 2015 teas from White2tea the Tuhao had by far the most throat feel. It also got me tea drunk to the point of just leaning back in my chair and staring at the ceiling lol. The last thoughts also did a number on me but that was a much more narcotic body feeling as compared to head high.

      • Hi Grill,

Aha. They’re both certainly tea drunk teas. In this particular session, it’s not entirely clear how much is from drinking two young teas consecutively or being Tuhaoed. Whatever it is, I was feeling it!

        Cheers,
        -James

    • Hi Richard,

Thanks for the comment. Yes indeed! That throatiness is very distinct and notable.

Assuming you are the Richard that tasted through W2T’s 2015 line.. It appears our tastes are different but I enjoyed your post.

      Cheers,
      -James

    • Hi Zach,

Thanks for the comment and appreciate the feedback. Yes! No guarantees, but I hope to do something similar. If you’ve noticed I’m a slow drinker and reviewer so you may need to wait.

      Cheers,
      -James

      • Personally, I think that RoyalPuer has a set of underreviewed teas from Sui Yue Zhi Wei and BaoHeXiang. It might be worthwhile to see if either company genuinely has the goods…

        • Hi shah,

Thanks for alerting me to those brands. I’ve got a long list of teas, but will see if I can get to them.

          Cheers,
          -James

  3. I really enjoyed the Qi of the Tuhao as well. I found it’s effects almost the polar opposite of the new Last Thoughts (and yes this is another vote to review that tea also!).

    Cheers,

Richard (the one who sent you the 2014 LT sample)

    • Hi Richard,

Thanks for stopping in. Yes, it’s definitely got some energy to it. Will do re: Last Thoughts. I’ve still only had my one session with it, but am saving the last bit of my sample for a vid!

      Cheers,
      -James

  4. Having another Colbert session this morning. We’re having nice peaches at this time of the year, so I was eating one at the same time and it’s an awesome match.

Which got me thinking that I was finally able to identify exactly what Colbert tastes: peaches. The match is very close.

    • Hi Bef,

Interesting! I finished my Colbert sample a while back. This did cause me to have a glance back at my notes.

      Cheers!
      -James

  5. I wished I would have paid more attention to James’s comments about the Colbert being rough on the stomach!… before I purchased a whole cake. I recently had a session w/ it after putting it down for about 6 months, and my stomach was upset all day.
