Thanks Doug, and I agree wholeheartedly. Sometimes it’s easy (especially in our culture) to get caught up in brand recognition and price, etc. Really, though, aren’t we all showing up at the tea table for the tea itself?
THANK YOU!!! I love that there are well known people in the tea community speaking out on tea elitism, and reminding people how it is all about the drink itself and all those other things are secondary. It makes me so glad to be a part of the tea world.
Now if only I could get some of the other communities (cough cough wargaming and comics) to not be so snobbish and full of themselves!
Amanda! My pleasure. I had absolutely no idea about comics or wargaming (I googled, I admit it) but I can see how those niches could suffer greatly from “collectorism”. Luckily for us, we get to drink our goods ๐

Denny, I really enjoyed this piece! What you say in the very end is pretty profound and I appreciate the light manner in which you discuss important topics like these – keep it up brother!
Thanks Niklas! It’s easy to sound like a pompous a-hole when talking about these issues so I try to err on the side of low-key to hit the message home. Maybe I’ll flip 180 and go for pure troll debauchery. We’ll see ๐

Well said, especially the last line. We can all enjoy excellent tea without using it for self-aggrandizement.

A small butter knife will also work on lightly packed stuff but for the iron-pressed cakes it can be tough.
The tea was delicious!
