2014 Yunnan Sourcing Autumn Daqing Gushu [Teas I Own] — TeaDB James InBetweenIsode Episode #72

One of the very few young teas that I drink regularly. This is from the classic vendor, Yunnan Sourcing. This is from the Jinggu region, a place where Scott has begun to place a number of teas. 2014 Autumn Daqing Gushu.

  1. James,

Thanks for showcasing this tea. It’s been on my YS wish list for a while and it’s good to get some confirmation of its quality.

    • Yes indeed! It’s a good one. I was also just informed YS spring teas have gone up in price. This autumn I believe has stayed pat.

      Cheers,

  2. I went ahead and bought the 2015 spring version of this tea a couple of months back. A blind buy; purely based on Scott’s description of the tea as his favorite of his springtime pressings this year 😉

It is a good tea. Less than a year old, it surprised me by becoming one of my daily drinkers. Very pleasant to consume. “Sweet acorns” is a spot on descriptor – well placed James.

This can get fairly astringent when pushed hard, but the pay off is that you get some solid somatic effects.

……I haven’t been in the habit of using a scale, so I bought one recently…….realized that I’ve been knocking back something like 12 grams of this for my sessions…….

Oh, so that’s why this tea has had my head spinning some mornings!

    • Hi Heff,

Thanks for the comment and for helping to confirm my positive opinion of Scott’s Da Qing line :). 12 grams… Well I certainly won’t accuse you of brewing light.

      Cheers!

  3. I was just looking at this exact tea today myself before seeing this video. Scott has this tea spring/fall versions of various years to pick from. My thinking today included the idea that 2015 was such a wet year, so 2013-2014 is more of interest, but this was just a guess I had in my head. Since you have compared 2014 and 2015, do you have any thoughts on the differences?

    • Hi Cwyn,

Thanks for the comment. I haven’t done the head to head so it’s hard for me to say. This one I think has more of a steady base to it than the 2015, which is stronger in body feelings. Also tilting the scales is that the 2015 spring productions recently have gone up in price.

      Cheers,
      -James
