Really hated the only puerh tea I tried so far, but watching your videos every week, I got curious and I’m planning an order of a bunch of different samples that Paul recommended. Hopefully, this new experience will be better – at the very least, it can’t be worse…
Anyway, very nice episode, as always. Kind of curious that the box of this tea is in French… Do you know why?
Which samples did Paul recommend? I have yet to find a puer that I like, but I still have several more teas to try. Sheng is most definitely out, however!
Hi Peter,
Sheng was out for me until I’ve tasted the New Amerykah 2 by White2Tea. That thing was a revelation I’ve bought a whole cake of it
But I’m a bit shu lover and White2Tea offering is absolutly awesome. I’d personally recommend the Lil’ Gold Melon from their offering as a first shu. It is really great
Anyway Cheers,
Xavier
Here’s what he told me – please note that he based his recommendations on the feedback I gave him about the puerh I didn’t like, so his recommendations could be different for someone else.

Buy a sample of this, if you hate it, you probably hate ripe:

Then buy samples of this to see if you like raw, young power:

This for sweetness:

Great video – very entertaining and enjoyable! Thanks.
As usual, nice ep.
I’ve been wondering, how does everyone handles their cakes. By that I mean sanitary so, do you wash your hand before handling them, do you wear gloves, and so forth.
Personally I wash my hand throughfully and then wait them to dry out and I then
break enough tea for my drinking and that it
Curious to see how people handle that
Cheers,
Xavier
Pretty much the same Xavier, I think that as long as you don’t get any food or foul smells onto the cake it should be fine.
The tea is going to be washed before consumption as well.
I suppose it can be similar with Yixing/clay teapots. It takes a lot to ruin cakes and pots with dirty hands.
Westerners can get OTT with hygiene I think, but the spirit of tea is beyond mind, a sort of personal and experiential means of expression
As Denny has said before, there is no right way to make tea
Picked up,I mean found 4 if these tuo’s all 4 ‘2007’ at a local chinese herbal store,AMAZING Puer!So now I’ll have to order from yunnan sourcing on account the 4 I found were a fluke hidden behind bags of rice.Anyone try the Xiaguan 250 gram crane label that’s being sold on the yunnan site?,,same basic ripe as thease french export tuo cha’s?if more or less the same I’m in by the bagfull!
